Start off with two balls & hold one in each hand.
Throw one ball as an Over the top throw with outside scoop, that crosses to the other side of your body & at the same time scoop the other ball & throw it straight up Under the arm. This will probably feel strange, in most patterns the two hands circle in opposite directions but here both hands have to scoop either clockwise or anticlockwise. Remember to throw both balls together & to the same height, the ball thrown over the top should cross over to the opposite side of the pattern while the ball thrown under the arm goes straight up. Uncross your arms & catch both balls, each in the opposite hand to the one that threw it.
Practise this step on both sides alternately until you can throw both balls up to equal heights consistently & without throwing the underarm ball out to the side.
Now take all three balls & hold two in one hand & one in the other. Begin by throwing one of the balls in the hand holding two over the top & at the same time throw the single ball under the arm, just as you have been practising. Carry the third ball over your other arm to the opposite side of your body, then as the two balls peak, throw it back to the other side over the top of the pair of balls as they start to fall. To start with make this throw quite high to give yourself more time. Uncross your arms & catch the two balls one in each hand, then as the single ball peaks, scoop & throw the pair under the arm & over the top again, this time the hand that started with two balls throws under & the other hand throws over. Continue the movement of the over the top throw & reach over the arm that made the underarm throw to catch the single ball. Again throw it back over the top of the pattern, then uncross your arms, catch the two balls & you are back to the beginning again. To continue throw another pair over the top & under the arm & so on.
Work on reducing the height of your throws & on throwing the single ball to the same height as the pair to make it look more like Mills Mess. If the throws are high it just looks like an untidy columns pattern. With practise you can juggle the pattern at the same height as a standard Mills Mess.
